The family series tells the story of ten-year-old Marnie, who tries to fit into a new group of peers after moving to a small town. Along with her friends, she decides to make her own movie to fulfill her dream of a seafaring expedition. Each episode offers adventure, humor, and real-life situations, while playfully introducing the process of filmmaking and the individual roles involved in creating a movie.
There was extraordinary interest in the series among children, with as many as 677 applicants from across Slovakia joining the casting process. From this pool, the creators selected thirty of the most talented children to participate in an intensive creative camp. It was during this camp that the final lineup of the eight main child protagonists, including the lead role of Marnie, was formed. Since last November, the creators have been working systematically with the selected children to prepare them for their acting roles.
"I am very pleased that Slovak Television and Radio is starting production on a new original series for children. Creating content for the youngest audience is one of the key missions of a public service medium—not only to entertain but also to develop, inspire, and provide value-driven content. I believe that Marnie Blarney will appeal to entire families and become a project that viewers will truly love," stated STVR General Director Martina Flašíková.
The series is characterized by an original visual concept that connects three distinct worlds: the reality of everyday life, the playful "movie world" of the children's pirate film, and the imaginative world of Marnie’s fantasies, inspired by various cinematic genres.

"We are delighted by the immense interest children have shown in this project. The casting alone showed us how much talent, imagination, and creative drive there is among children in Slovakia. Working with the selected children over the past few months has been intensive, but at the same time immensely inspiring. We believe we will succeed in delivering a series that is authentic, playful, and valuable," said producer Michaela Jeleneková.
An experienced creative team stands behind the project. The screenplay was written by Marka Staviarska, with direction by Csaba Molnár. The visual side is overseen by cinematographer Nick Kollár, with production design by Michal Lošonský, costume design by Andrea Madleňáková, and makeup by Martina Selnekovičová. The music for the series is being composed by Daniel Kišš.
Filming will take place throughout the spring and summer of 2026, and viewers can look forward to the result in the autumn of 2027.
